Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra: 2014’s Most Frequently Recalled Vehicles
General Motors (GM), producers of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2014 GMC Sierra, have issued six recalls in 2014 for these very popular pickup trucks. This year, the 2014 Silverado and Sierra have been the year’s most recalled vehicles. It is unclear how many vehicles have been subject to the recalls, but the concern ranges from small (unsecured floor mats) to serious (steering problems). GM has been prominently featured in the news regarding a recall of 2.6 million cars due to a faulty ignition switch that has been linked to motor vehicle accidents and injuries.
It is unknown whether or not any accidents or injuries have been related to the 2014 Sierra and Silverado recall, but GM has taken this recall very seriously. Owners of vehicles affected by the steering issue were contacted via overnight mail and through the OnStar system and told not to drive the pickups until the vehicles could be towed in for repair. According to GM, “The tie rod threaded attachment to the steering gear rack in these vehicles may not be tightened to specification. With this condition, the tie rod can separate from the steering rack and a crash could occur without prior warning.”
