Ovarian Cancer and Talcum Powder
Baby powder made with talc or talcum powder is one of the most commonly purchased items on the “baby aisle” at the supermarket. For many, the distinct smell and feel of baby powder bring back fond memories of the past; however recently it has been linked to litigation regarding allegations that its use may cause ovarian cancer.
In a 2013 civil trial involving manufacturer Johnson & Johnson, an expert in the field of epidemiology testified that as many as 10,000 women develop ovarian cancer each year as a result of using talcum powder.
It is alleged that women that use talcum powder for perineal hygiene are at risk for developing ovarian cancer. It is also alleged that manufacturers of talcum powder have known of the risk and have failed to adequately warn consumers of the potential dangers associated with regularly using talcum powder for female hygiene.
Talc is a mineral made up of various elements including magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. Talc is ground to make talcum powder which is used to absorb moisture. It is commonly found in many products such as body and facial powder.

With the fear that the regular use of talcum powder in female hygiene has been linked to ovarian cancer, additional lawsuits are very likely to be filed against the manufacturers of talcum powders. Consumers have a right to be made aware of the risks associated with the products that they purchase.
When harmful products are placed on the market resulting in harm to consumers, manufacturers of dangerous products may be held liable for the harms that their products caused.
Any women that have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and that have also regularly used talcum powder for perineal hygiene may be eligible for compensation for their injuries and should contact a law firm for a case evaluation.
Compensation could include payment for medical bills, pain & suffering and compensation for other damages that may have been caused.
